ENGLISH LETTER :) 1930'S
Dear Cassie Hoskins,
I am currently living in the 1930s and wow, it is vastly different than anything you are familiar with in 2010. My house is in a pair; however they do not look the same. My house has a different porch, compared to the other house, but the internal layout is basically the same. Our living space is extremely small, with a hall leading to the living room, dining room and kitchen. My house is two stories and up stairs I have three bedrooms and an internal bathroom. The walls are red brick, pebbledash and half timbering with red clay tile roofs and tile hung walls. The backyard of my house consists of several plants and trees. It is very home-like and makes my family and I feel very comfortable. Although, my family is doing it extremely hard, as society is going through major depression, so life is really hard at the moment.
My family and I have not done any family activities for ages now, as they are at work day and night trying to get through this tough time. My parents work at the bakery down town as a full time job, they are there from 6 in the morning to at least 8 at night. They receive very little pay, as we struggle to survive each and everyday. In other words we have a poor standard of living. I live next to some very kind people and scary people too. My neighbor is extremely friendly and always polite; however the man that lives opposite us never comes out of his house. It is like he is chained up inside, and everyone is scared to go there. Who knows what could happen to you? So we have a fairly common community, with some strange aspects. The houses are pretty close together, and are surrounded with vegetation. The roads are very narrow and it is an old looking area.
My school is very poor; we have to write everything with hand, there are no computers, books or playgrounds. I have some of the best friends anyone could ever ask for:
We are currently experiencing an economic depression and it’s so bad that one American Worker in every four was out of a job. World War I has exhausted people. Grief, loss, and hard work made us people ready for a change. When the stock market crashed a year ago all the economy’s weaknesses have become clear. This was not, however, the start of the Great Depression but just a signal of its onset. I don’t like the fashion at the moment, my mother wears long dresses, with sleeves and my father wears a suit with a brimmed hat and I wear long overalls.
When you receive this Cassie Hoskins please write back to me, I would love to know what 2010 is like.
Love you
Jaime Bradford
