Version of Femininity essay paragraph

"The Devil wears Prada"

The film “The devil wears Prada” clearly shows two different versions of femininity, Andy’s and other women that surround her. Andy represents a real care free version of femininity, as they represent her as daggy, tomboy, sty-less, and normal everyday person. Whereas the other women are represented as people who care immensely about themselves, as they represent them as stylish, sexy and self obsessed. Andy and the other women’s version of femininity are supported by the film techniques they use. With Andy they use old underwear; whereas with other women they have used nice, elegant laundry. When the camera is on the other women, the camera shows from the shoes upwards, this represents their power and style. Whereas when the camera is on Andy it travels from top to bottom, which is showing us that she is someone who doesn’t care. To show Andy’s version of femininity, the camera zooms up on her when she is brushing her teeth, where as the camera zooms up on other women when they are putting on makeup on and sexy laundry. The two versions of femininity are clearly shown throughout the film by the film techniques.
